Well Im very happy to say after years of thinking about it I finally bit the dust and acquired this one today:

Long story short, a guy owed another guy money, had this yak, new I wanted one and now its mine I have a great friend who understands my bass passion much better than my wife, she thought it was the stupidest thing she has ever seen me do! Even when it didnt cost me anything, she just dont get it does she? Hahah

Help Im looking for is how should I rig it up for bassin??? Its not the layout I would want for bassin but I was not gonna turn it down. Where is a good place to see kayak fishing accessories. Im not wanting to put a trolling motor on it, just want to be able to store a few boxes, hold a couple rods and slam some bass and crappie. Thanks in advance

Also, the one I got is red. Should I paint the bottom of it for more camo or do you think it really matters? Id really like to paint the whole thing but Im thinking the red will stick out good incase a boat doesnt see me or something. Can I just spray paint the bottom? It wont hurt the material will it? Thanks again

Congrats on the new yak! I have no idea about the painting. I know when I bought my kayak i waited about 2 months before adding anything to it. I took several trips out and then realized what changes I needed to make.

here is a link to the Texas Kayak Forum. It has a bunch of kayaks that have been modified. It might give you some ideas, but I really would wait until you take it out several times before adding anything.

No need to paint it. Like was said before, takenit out for a few trips before adding on. A bell can't be un-rung and a hole on a yak is hard to un-drill. You can get some accessories at bass pro and academy but for selection, I recommend ordering online from Austin canoe and kayak. Great service and super fast shipping.

Do not paint a poly roto-molded kayak unless you like peeling paint.

If you do decide to paint anyway, look up the surface prep procedures which include flames and/or chemicals to scuff up the surface chemically so it will accept paint. That should be enough to convince you not to paint it.

cool, do you think the red will be off putting to fish? There are boats with red boots but no too many Prolly wont matter and if its that big a deal to paint it I might just take a majik marker to it and draw some tree limbs to break it up a lil, lol.

Now next question, how do I haul this thing around, lakes about 100 miles away and I drive a CAR! Yes Im sad to admit I drive a CAR! LOL, it is what it is, with the commute to work I have to make I couldnt afford gas in a truck anymore. Thanks in advance

Go to the mariner sales web site or the ACK site, they have plenty of options for carrying on top a car. bass Pro does as well, but as mentioned, you get better service at the two I mentioned.

I lived in Midland for years and, yes it's a long way to any reasonable water. Still, you'll enjoy the kayak.

I wouldn't bother camouflaging it unless you're hunting ducks out of it. The fish won't care. I'd be more interested in making the topside more visible to fend off the drunk water skiers.

I have a fiberglass kayak (not a fishing model) and I've put some reflective minnow shaped stickers on the bottom and I occasionally get bumped by dinks while I'm paddling. I've never been bumped by a fish big enough to make it interesting.

I use the foam blocks method to haul mine around on the top of various cars and vans I've owned. The foam block kits are okay, but I go with ratcheted 1" - 1-1/2" nylon straps instead of ropes. My Boy Scout knot skills are rusty and I've had problems with ropes loosening up after a little bit of 70MPH. The ratcheted straps have never let me down.

I've never tried a Thule or equivalent bar because they seem to cost about as much as the kayak or canoe once you've bought the base kit, adapter for your car, kayak saddles, locks and all.

Color of the kayak won't affect fishing. If you do want to paint it, use Rustoleum or the Krylon specifically designed for plastic.

for a simple, yet effective, system you can use something like this: CLICK Just remember to run bow and stern straps to the front and back, respectively, of your car to prevent the kayak from lifting.

Don't be ashamed. I sold my Z78 Suburban last year and starting driving the Honda Civic. I save over $200 per month in gas money.
What i did is put a hitch receiver on the civic and bought a light weight trailer from harbor freight. Rigged the trailer to haul yaks and my 2 man bass buster.

I drive a hatchback kia and fit my 12 foot hobie on it easily. Look for a rack mounting system made by yakima and that should be perfect, that is what I use at least. Then get somebgood quality ratcheting tie downs and you should be safe. I use all that and been 80 mph on the high way just fine.

I had the hitch receiver (and lights) done professionally plus the trailer from HF rigged up the way I needed it and I was out the door for right at $500 bucks.
In stall the hitch receiver yourself and you can save over $150.
