Monster redfish in it...good time to get your tackle tested at the hot water outlet.

Watch out for the metal t-post. It will put some nice holes in your boat (know from experience).I went in the mid-summer,too dang hot.I've heard its a good winter lake, due to the hot water. After my trip,I won't be returning. Hope your trip turns out better.

The reds seem to be boat shy. Little hard to connect with but worth the effort. Good cat lake and from what I hear good bass also. A very pretty and well kept area to camp, all in all good.

As an added bonus, the land surrounding the lake is abundant with wildlife. Lots of deer wandering around, and by mid-October, the leaves on those oaks should be turning colors and it should be beautiful as well. I agree that the catfishing is awesome there. Make yourself some chum or buy the store variety. Bait out a few holes and you should load the boat.

Another plus if you like excellent tasting fish is the talapia. These can be caught by the boat-load in the upper end of the lake (no limits on these morsels) by using a very small hook and hominy for bait. Just bait the hook and cast it in and wait for the bite. These fish are thick in Fairfield and are very tasty! They get up to 2-3 pounds, about like a big crappie.

Fairfield is excellent for lots of variety in fishing, all above is correct. Number one rule make sure all coolers and food are stored in a very secure way. The coons can open any cooler made, make sure to take proper measures against them. jk

i allways fsh fairfield in the cooler months, have always had pretty good luck at the rip rap at mid point of lake south of the power plant, the hot water creek runs i behind it, fish flukes and spinnerbaits near reeds and then on rip rap. the dam is good too. drag a c.rig along the dam in about 15 feet or so of water, have caught some good ones there, also pay attention to spillway area and the reeds next to deep water by spillway. my best baits are 4 or 6 inch zoom trick worms in green pumpkin with a tail dipped in chart. garlic spike it. hope this will give you a couple of places to start.

Big A,
I second the Sam's Restaurant stop. I have been known to have breakfast and a late lunch on the same day.

I've camped there many times, and yes, watch the coons. Last time I camped there was at campsite 28 and I landed several keeper reds. I was casting a rattle trap out in the tree stumps right down from the campsite. If you haven't caught a red before, beware! I wouldn't use anything less than 17lb test on a stout reel with good drag. Nothing against the cheap reels, but a 10lb red will make a one timer out of them, if you can get them to the bank! Godd luck!

Don't forget the hybrids! This time of year, I have had a ton of success going to the water inlet for the power plant. I cast jigging spoons up into the inlet and bounce them back to the boat. I've caught as many as 30 in a couple of hours this way.
