Anybody fish helmut lake recently?

Hiya breamgetter-I personally have not fished helmet recently. That lake should begin to crank up in September, the whole month of October(for bass), and just before it gets cold, the crappie will be up shallow, hitting jigs and minnows, in much the same manner as when they stage for the spawn. And you can ask Grady, Brad, and the guys, that lake has some saddle blanket sized crappie!

Well I hit Helmet yesterday for a few hours.
I fished off the long peninsula on both sides. All i managed was 1 little dink and a few other tap-taps. I threw spinnerbaits, worms, a spoon and a Rapala. Only luck was a 4" chartuese lizard. Hey Rudy, where is a good place to catch ol bucketmouth in there? Is there any structure in the lake? How deep do you think it is? As always, thanks for the info!

Breamgetter, that peninsula is usually the place for good bass fishing. Another good spot is that northwest corner, where the manicured green grass slopes down from that low slung office building with the "back porch" and picnic table. Another good spot is that southwest corner where that concrete culvert slopes down to the water. there is quite a bit of sunken brush and laydowns in front of it, that the nutria have left there over the yrs.
