Gatorgar,

I read your introduction on the "Introduce Yourself" thread. I've always associated catfishing with being stationary; either off the bank or tied off in a boat.

Do you tie off, anchor or just drift the bait? I'm thinking that since you said your side of the lake doesn't get much wind, you just tight line the bait and let the tube stay stationary in calm waters.

This might be something for me to try, especially when I'm in the mood for a fish fry! I'm usually bass exclusive, but some good eatting size cats would always be good.

Of course, those fins and punctures are a real probability!

Kelly

when i would go catting on tube its a drift if possible, just sit back and relax..! if its too windy i tie a few bass casting weights to a 20lb line and drop that so i can be slowed.

Hey Kelly,

Went out last night and fished the shallows in my tube for bream but ended up catching 3 keeper catfish on my ultralite and it was fun. It seems like no matter what I throw out there the catfish like it. I usually use shad but they really like the crawlers too.

Where do you keep the Catfish when you catch them?? I'm thinking that the fins wouldn't go too good with the tube. And if they were on a stringer they wouldn't be too fun to try and kick around with. Do you cut the fins or is there another way?

You can get a livewell from Academy or make one yourself easily enough. As for the fins, take along a set of tin snips or a multi-tool with good wire cutters and cut those suckers off.

I've been catching and release when I'm in my tube but you can get a floating type basket at Academy that people use that either tube fish or kayak fish.

It's a common misconception that catfish are stationary creatures. I catch about 90 percent of my catfish moving from tree stump to tree stump and not allowing the bait to sit longer than about 10 seconds in one place. If they are at that stump, they will hit it right away. If they aren't, why wait? Move to the next stump or treelimb or root system.

gatorgar, do you ever get holes in your float basket? how do 'you' repair them? or is there a more durable brand out there.

I have a styrofoam basket that works pretty well. It holds up pretty well too.
