We kicked off 2011 with a old school format of not letting the angler in on the lake selection until the last minute, and when I say last minute I really mean last minute on this one...

Ronnie has known for 2 weeks that he would be doing one of these, on a lake that he might or might not have ever been on, and that he wouldn't find the lake out till we were on the way or there.


On 1/29/2011, I meet Ronnie in front of his house at 5am and we started the adventure to the great unknown....well for Ronnie..

I noticed Ronnie kept looking at his phone and I realized what he was doing....Looking at his phone to see if I posted anything on here.


We get in the truck and he starts looking for maps or directions to the lake, but I'm way ahead of him and have everything saved on my phone.

We start out heading down 276 and driving toward Lake Fork, and Ronnie seems kinda Excited....He's Going to Fork...

We get to Fork and stop at Tiffany's for some Breakfast, as we are eating Ronnie is looking for spots on Fork and getting a game plan ready.

Well, when we get done Ronnie gets a surprise, we didn't got to the ramp, we get on 515 and it leads to here.





I will Fill in some more info later, but just wanted to get the Video's up for you guys.

Here is a fast motion video of the 34 minutes that lead to the 6.10 he caught under the dock...I just threw some music in there so it wouldn't get to boring with out some sound.



Closing remarks after a tough day on lake Winnsboro.


Ronnie finished the day with one fish for 6.10 lbs, but to have never seen the lake and trying to figure out something in less than 5 hours is tough for anyone.

I also bugged the heck out of him for some flipping and pitching video's and he was cool enough to stop fishing a lot to teach some stuff...Remember that for ever minute of video you watch i probably removed 2 minutes of editing.

Ronnie didn't get a good shot at just fishing and not filming to be honest.

I will say that the Fast motion, Flipping and Pitching video's were worth the trip to me..

6 pounds 10 ounces on my scale was the wieght. I have the berkley that weighs in pounds and ounces Thanks, it was a fun and very challenging ordeal.

I will have to watch these at home tonight.

Winnsboro is a nice lake and has some dang good feesh in it.. and you guys caught a nice break in the weather too!!!

I did tell Casey after we left, that I want to go back and really put some time in on it and figure it out a little better. I dont have side imaging anymore, but could have really used it to look at creek channels and search for brushpiles. I had zero mapping data besides the outline of the lake! LOL!

Ronnie if you couldn't see the wt on the scale can I take it that you don't watch your line? If you do then how the heck can ya?

When we do videos on camera, I show the weight on the scale and call it. That way a angler doesn't call one weight and I film another.

I had told Ronnie this and instead if saying you read it he said I can't see it ..

Doing this just cuts down on weight errs.

I asked Ronnie why he said he couldn't see or read the weight... He said the polarized glasses made the screen on the scale solid black. I told him to turn his head sideways next time! Ha ha! Take two pairs of polarized glasses and turn one pai 90 degrees to the other and you will see the same effect.

It was fun. I want to go back and fish the north east side of the lake where the river channel runs by the docks. I bet I could expand on what i learned that day with the jig.

Awesome lake man fished it back in 91 with Kurt Long and we tore them up. Man it was good to see ya, congrats on the hawg, and way to be patient with the camera on ya with the backlash!!

Winnsboro used to be one the best lakes around. Since about 2000 or so though, the tournament pressure out there in the spring is unreal. From March until June, nearly every Saturday and Sunday there will be 75-100 boats on that thing. I looked on TPWD survey numbers and they were WAY down the last time they did a survey. I know a lot of that had to do with the drought in 2005. I think the numbers are on the way back up though. I fished a tournament on it in December and there were 2, 20 lb stringers weighed.

sure.. but lets do it on a lake that neither of us have fished.. just like this one. You ask if that's the best I can do... you try it on a cold winter day on a lake you have never even seen or read about good luck

Was the aligator grass still arond the banks? There used to be tons of reeds that had 3' in front of them also with grass. That lake has changed quite a bit over the last 3 years.

In December, I did not see any of the alligator grass that was there last spring. Yes it has changed. I miss those reeds. There are a few patches of them, but they are not nearly as many as there used to be. The drought in 2005 that I spoke of earlier REALLY changed things.

no grass at the waters edge. it is about 2-2.5' low. no vegetation anywhere! it was like cypress springs, except I didnt know where the brushpiles were at.. LOL!
