i know this isn't exactly a catfish topic, but i know a couple of yall out there frequent calaveras and braunig quite a bit. i remember a while back on calaveras i conintually found several large schools of surfacing carp. reason i ask is i like to arrow them and use them for cut bait at some of my other catfish holes. I'm curious if any of yall have seen similar things, and if you could remember what time of year and where on the lake it was.

Buerich, If you want to arrow some carp right now they are up along the banks and around the reed beds. You'll see them splashing and raising a rukus just about anywhere along the grassy shorelines. I used to bow fish for the carp and talapia to hone my skills for Bowhunting, but now I just like to sit back and catch fish with a rod and reel. I guess the older I get the lazyer I get. If you really want to have some fun and almost none stop shooting get a spotlight and go all the way into the back of the creeks at night. I better get off this subject because this is a catfishing topic board. Sorry guys!

jimbo is dead on. they are there right now. Saw abunch of them on canyon in the river yesterday too. i remember you saying you were close to canyon, so maybe it is worth a shot too. Cut sucker , when they want it is deadly. My exp. with it is hit or miss, but when it hits. wham!lots of kitties

If you want carp without the effort of bowfishing, just get some bran flakes and big red and mix it, put on a treble without a sinker and you should catch as many as you can carry.

hey kat-man-do, i've never had a whole lotta luck catchin carp on rod and reel. i've done it but far and few in between. are there any spots that are better for it than others. i know the lake is chuck full of the things, are all places about the same?

With Carp, it's fairly easy to "bring the fish to you". On Rod And Reel they are a blast to fight. No jumping but some long fought out battles. The next time you go to any body of water that has carp, take a can of sweet corn with you, throw a few hand fulls out in the water, cast out near the chum area with a few kernals on a small single hook, kick back and wait for your rod to be pulled in the water. (In other words have your bait clicker on or have it in free spool!)
