I was on the lake for about an hour yesterday and say birds roosting in the trees. They looked like ducks from a distance. Is this where one should fish? Is there a particular bird you look for? or any birds?

The birds you are looking for are the black water turkeys. I know there are some roosting south of 380 and a few north/east of Brockdale. Look for the white washed trees. Alot of the birds have left early this year for some reason?

I have seen hundreds of comorants at Calaveras. I even saw one fly into a tree and get his head stuck between two limbs. After recovering, he sat there about 30 minutes and pretended like he meant to do it, while the other birds had long since left. Finally he got up the nerve to try to fly, but hit the water right by my boat and flopped around until he finally got enough air to fly away. It was funny.

Me and my buddy Rogc do pretty good on lake Conroe around this island, that is covered with water turkeys!! It's awesome, cause it has just enough trees that hang out over the water so the birds can do their business right where we fish!! So if you see them roosting, and can get under the spot they're at, give it a try!!! You might do good!!

Cormorant roosts have alway been a favorite area for me. Some of the best catfishing trips I've been on were involved cormorant roosts.

OK guys, I have to ask, why is fishing good near birds that are taking care of business?

It is not effective under ALL birds. It is most effective under comnorants due to their feeding habits (they feed almost exclusively on fish) and because of their roosting habits.

And because of their digestive system. A lot of their poop is chunks of shad. They don't completly digest their food.

Phillip and I fished Mallard Park this morning under the bird roosts and landed 5, and had one snap my line. We didn't put in untile around 10:00 and what we caught came within the first hour we were there and then not even a bite after that. I have to say though, thanks to everyone for promoting Danny Kings punch bait, I am a firm believer in it. Sharon
