Crop ole buddy ole pal: Since you are moving up to the big time, PLEASE let me move into the Cat Shanty that you are leaving. I would LOVE to catch a 5 lbs kitty. Where and how in our beloved and by the by it is PINK not Red JBT. How and where are you catching them? Are you buying or netting the shad?

Mark, we have been neting the shad in the cove by the park. We put 2 lines out on the north side. One by the dam the other up the lake about 1/4 mile. I'm not complaining just always looking for something better. All of them have had small egg sacks. I didn't know they started forming eggs this early?

CROP,

It is great to see some other West Texas folk on the forum. I love to fish Thomas but haven't got up there in about a month. It is one of the best catfish lakes I have fished. It is great to hear that the cat's are biting. Sandy Beach on the north end is usually a great place to net shad. I may have to plan a trip this weekend. Just curious, are you catching these on trot-lines or with rod & reel.

All of the better fish we are catching on trotlines. I started fishing for the blues because we started catching tmem on minnows while crappie fishing. I learned the hard way a long time ago to fish for whats biting. We catch 2-10 a trip but they have all been small. do you catch alot of shad over there. cast net or seine.

Crop,

I catch the shad with a cast net on the north end. Like you, I have the best luck on trot lines.

Crop and MY: Trot lines are probably one of our problems, we've been rod and reeling them. On the rod and reel side, are you rigging up a Carolina type rig to live bait them or suspending the bait below a bobber? And where again are you catching them?
