I don't usually post here but I needed some help. We set a few jugs out at Fork last weekend and caught a 21lb. Flathead. I was wondering, in theory, where the catfish are right now and what they should be biting on. Catching that one has sparked my interest and I am going to take it a little more serious this weekend. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Good question. Yeah I'll be taking it serious this weekend too, because I'm doing the Catfish Splash. I have never been on fork so if you answer his question it would help me out too.

I have heard second hand that the coves to the southwest of the dam are good.

I don't know if they are in there right now but during spawning season we went to the very back of glade throwing water dogs and couldn't keep 10 lb.plus cat fish off our lines. Each time we would hook up we thoughjt must be a monster bass!

I caught 13 good channel cats from 1.5 to 6lbs on dk punchbait from 6 - 10 this morning in the back of a cove close to dale creek. Tied up to a tree and fished water 3 - 5'. Never moved from that spot and could only use one rod at a time. I took my wife bream fishing there saturday afternoon and we caught 4 good cats on crickets so I went and got the dk punch bait and went back early this morning. The fish were really biting out there this weekend. Caught some good bass saturday around lilley pads pretty much all day long on soft plastics.

Just got home from the Lake For Catfish Splash tournament and I can tell you that ya'll missed a great time. ACATS represented! At one point ACATS filled 3 of the 4 chairs for the hourly weigh in. Brent P......way to go man! He caught the 6th biggest fish of the tournament. A 7.25 channel cat. Now let me tell you that there were near 400 entries in this tournament and Brent placed 6th overall. We got $300 for the hourly weigh in. The guy that beat him got him by 1/4 pound and knocked Brent out of 5th overall for $1000 plus the $400 1st place for the hour. To make matters worse, Brent lost a BIG fish that would have won the tournament right at the boat when it wrapped on a stump. icon_sad.gif
There were NO blues or flatheads weighed in. The biggest fish for 2 days was only 8 something I think. ALL channel cats! Weird! We tried live sun fish hoping for a big flathead to win the tourney, but no luck. Shad arent exactly plentiful there either. You have to work for them.
Larry Spillars took home some hourly cash as well.
It was great camping with the ACATS folks and thanks to all of them for their hospitality!
Guys, you need to try this thing next year! They are going to do it again and it doesnt matter if you have a boat. A guy got cash fishing from the shore. There were $38,000 in prizes and cash given out and next year they hope for more.

A guide that takes parties catfishing on Fork told me Friday that he has been using horse and mule feed dropped down in a paper bag (bag saturates...jerks the bag and it all stays in one place on the bottom)to about 25 feet deep and then uses DK punch bait. Says it take about 2 hours if you have not baited the hole previously, to draw in the fish. Bart
