I recently purchased this reel. Very nice. It is heavier than I expected it to be. The rods I currently own are 6 1/2 feet or 6 feet. The combination does not feel "balanced". Do I need to go to a longer rod or heavier rod or longer, heavier rod? Any suggestions? My budget is $100.00 or less. Thanks

Not sure what fish you target, but with the shorter rod, I would not go any bigger than a 2500 series spinning reel. The 2500 Symetre is 4 oz less than your 4000 you have now and can handle most types of freshwater fishing. If you're gonna keep the reel then look for a catfishing or a surf rod to match as I doubt you will find a bass rod that will balance with the heavier reel.

7 ft rod would work better. Sone rods have weights on the butt for balance.

I like the 3000 series. Lighter than 2500 series and more capacity. It's just full of win. I could only imagine using a 4000 series in saltwater on a M-MH coastal rod for chasing down bulls or shark or even fishing off a pier ro beach with a surf rod.

Take the reel into your sporting goods store and try it on different rods. Factor in how fast you like the rod tip. When it feels good and balanced, you'll know it.
