Don't fall in love with a name. Mako has changed several times in the past 15 or so years. Find a boat you can afford and give it any name you want. Good luck.

Love my Mako, but you have to find what fits your needs and budget. If you're looking at something used, you should have a boat mechanic look it over for you. There are a lot of good used boats out there.

Deerstrangler had it right. At one time Mako was the king. Not so much anymore. Look at contruction, livewells and any other features that you desire and then try to find someone that has owned that brand and see what their take is on it.

+1

Coming from 16 years on the coast, BenS is right, Mako was the boat to have 15 or 20 years ago, they are not made quite the same. On lakes, they are probably still holding together well but offshore they are not holding together near as well as they used to. A good used one from the 90's with a newer motor on it would be my choice if looking at Makos. Good luck in your boat search, you can get a lot of used boat for you money these days, I know I sold my offshore boat 2 years after buying it for 60% of what I paid, there are some great deals, don't settle.

Make sure that the boat and motor are titled, else it will be likd throwing your money away when you try to get it registered.

I just bought a SeaChaser 170BR by Carolina Skiff. It has a v-hull, 60 hp Yamaha, all 2003 model. I got a real bargain and would be willing to pass on a big savings if your interested. It is in good shape- not junk by any means. Check out the Carolina Skiff website. Pm me if interested.
