Just another piece of evidence that shows those goofy yankees don't have a clue.

I'm not so wrapped up in Savik's alleged illegal culling, but the fact that a no-cull law exists in tournaments in the first place.

What the heck kind of strategy can you employ in a no-cull tournament (or a no-cull state)? I guess you could go to your "big bite" areas first and work 'em for all they're worth, but it seems like you're basically relying on luck when you can't make any culls. I know I haven't figured out a surefire way to make my big fish bite first. Heck, I'm lucky if I can make any fish bite, period. bang

It's not a tournament rule, it's a state law. But tournament rules state all state laws must be followed. My question would be, "what is reduced to possession" mean. In the livewell or in the ice chest?

Snowflakes and entitled brats will be the doom of America!

"Once a daily or possession limit of fish has been reached, no culling or live well sorting is allowed." page 9 of the state rules

So you can cull as long as your not at your possession limit? if the daily limit is 10 couldn't you cull all day long if the tournament limit was 5 fish?

I'll just use lightline and breakoff the smaller ones. Problem solved. Palm the spool and pull the hook or break the line.

Like your train of thinking. But I will keep using my heavy flouro and braid, but keep my knife close. Small fish = cut line and retie. Never land it or have it in posession - see what these stupid type of governement regualations do.

I think no cull tournaments are a neat idea, puts some strategy into the day, "do I keep this fish or not".
I believe all walleye tournaments are no cull events.

I thought about that, too, and I'm sure guys have done that. But then that makes me ask the question - is it better to allow guys not to cull, or to force them to go to extreme measures like breaking a lure off in a fish's mouth in order to be competitive in tournaments?

And I agree a no cull event would be fun to do once in a while, but if I were forced to do it all the time I imagine it would get old fast.

I thought the rule was that once a fish went into your live well you had to keep it. So you had to choose to keep a fish as part of your 5 when you boated it. So you can boat all the fish you want, but you either have to return them to the lake or keep them, no culling of fish in the live well. I have seen a few Walleye events on TV where this was in effect. It makes for a different type of event for sure.

Is this any different than the hook outside the mouth rule in Cali? That is any fish that is caught with the hook outside their mouth must be thrown back. I remember Steve Kennedy throwing back 5-10lb fish a few years back because of that rule. They are different rules, but same effect. Changes what most of us are used to.

You can cull in mn and this is border water but if you had a wi lic you could not cull you had to have a mn lic. Also this tourny site was on the mn side.

Being a border water there is no culling after a fish is put into posession IE the live well. State law from both states. It doesn't mater what state you are licenes in. You can cull in MN just not WI border waters. The biggest problem is the Tournament Director gave them some miss leading info on the rule/law. BUT the local angler should know the law!
