I recently bought a kayak and want to go fishing at the beach. Friends have told me I can paddle out drop my line then go back to the beach and fish. I am new to beach fishing and I am wondering how far I need to go out, what place to pick on the beach, and what to fish with. I mainly need to know about bait. I normally fish on Keith lake with artificials. That is my second question. Where is everyone catching them on Keith Lake??

just pretty much go out as far as your reel will allow best to leave atleast 1/3 of the line on the reel just incase, its kinda hard to tell someone how to read the water its best something shown but look for breakers that either break in two directions which indicates a point or high spot under the water where schooling bait fish are attracted to, for more like reds and trout or look for where the waives are not breaking in between where the waves are breaking if that makes any sense basically look for a deep spot or even some people just look for a spot where it breaks to allow easier entry to the yak but best bet is to fish under the birds or on the schools of mullet or shad. P.S. it really takes two atleast takes two to fish in the surf with a yak somebody has to be with the reel on the beach I use an air horn to signal the person in the yak to stop when the line is getting close to the end ,,,, if you can and would like a few of us are going out tuesday july 20th for shark to mcfaddin(not far from kieth) just email me if you would like to meet.
