Wayne Kilgo and I fished RC this morning and found sandbass schooling at 7AM but like yesterday, all the fish that we caught were under 12 inches. We moved around and finally found fish suspended in 41 feet of water. We would let the chartreuse rainbow shad slab fall to the bottom and then raise our rod tips hight and then let the slab fall but not to the bottom, repeating this process till we had worked the slab to the top. Most of the time, the fish would hit the lure on the first or second fall after raising the lure off the bottom. Due to a high Southeast wind, it was hard to stay on the fish but did manage to put 26 fish from 12 to 15 inches on ice. With my trolling batteries getting weak like they did on Monday, we headed to the ramp before 10AM.
Hope to have the new Optima batteries in the boat this week. It is very frustrating to be on quality fish and run out of power.

Wayne, are you locating these fish by trolling or marking a well-defined school pattern on your graph? I was at RC last Sunday PM, and didn't locate any bunched up, but caught a decent number (mostly smaller ones) trolling, mostly suspended in deeper water kind of like you describe.

Doyle, sorry about referring to you as Wayne, unless it is to be taken as a compliment (I'll leave that up to you).

All fish on Monday and Tuesday were caught on slabs. I do not like to troll and do very little.
I try to locate the fish with my graph and a lot of time during the hot summer months, you have a hard time getting them to bite. I have found that deeper fish will hit a slab during the summer more than fish that are bunched up on a shallow hump.
