I am fairly new to fishing and have always been fascinated with catching catfish. I am currently looking for a good quality reel and do know what to look for. I have found a Abu Garcia 5600WS that sounds attractive. Does anyone have any suggestions? I am looking for something under $80.

Go with a bigger Abu Garcia. If you have to stay under $80 get the BCX model but the Swedish made reels have a better rep. Look for a reel in the 6000-6600 model range with a bait clicker. You will be much happier in the long run.

Here are some suggestions on choosing a rod and reel.

I'd go with the Abu 6000, or 6500c3. They're close to that range. I've heard nothing but bad things about the Abu BCX series. Just make sure they're made in Sweden. Just my two cents. juggle

The Abu BCX models are made in China. The Swedish made are Amabassadeur and C3.

there is a quality difference. if you dont fish but 8 or 10 times a summer you probably wont notice anything, but if your out every weekend you can notice the difference in 6 months or so.
