1994 astro f18 175 mariner efi. Just bought the boat, had it out a few times. Today, get home and notice a sizable amount of oil in the bilge area. So I hose it out, and leave it for a while. Come back, and a very small amount had run down, it looked like from below/behind the fuel tank coming from the middle of the boat, not the motor. It looks like gear/lower unit oil, it is dark brown/black, not green/blue. Any ideas?

Do you have a oil reservoir tank some where. That could be leaking.

I have no clue, I have only had the boat for a few days, and astro boat diagrams are hard to come by. It has 2 gas tanks, and they both look easy to pull. I guess I am going to have to yank them to be able to see anything.

I have an oil reservoir tank, but it is seperated from the bilge area and not leaking. This boat has three compartments by the transom, not one long one.

Does it SMELL like gear oil? It has a very distinctive smell.

I used to carry an extra bottle of oil in mine in case something happened with the oil injection. It developed a slow leak and made a mess. Other than that the only thing it could be in the remote oil tank or the lines from the tank to the motor.
