Went bass fishing last weekend and had a perch engulf my 5" yamamoto worm. i pulled it out of the water and it was stained colored like the water and small bass i had caught but it had red eyes. I hooked another on a crawfish colored crankbait and it had the same demon eyes. What is it? Both were good sized for a perch but not what I'm looking for. Just wondering if anyone has an idea. Next time I will take a pic.

Just googled it and that's it buddy. They say a smart person doesn't know the answers, just knows where to look. Looks like you've had some some good luck with fishing. I fish a Privat Pond in Tolar TX. Where is your honey hole?

Only reason I know is I asked the same question a while back. We catch one of these every few weeks. The place I fish is near Paris, TX.

I agree it could have possibly been a warmouth.

Yup, that's a warmouth or goggle eye, the one Barnez is holding looks like it has some Green Sunfish in it's blood, those markings on the gills is more like a Green but the rest is text book Warmouth.

Im guessing if they are there the bass will be eating them. I need to switch colors on my crankbait. The ones I caught seemed to be spawning. Do they spawn the same time other perch do?

fairly close timing on the spawns and yes bass will eat anything they can fit in their mouths and some things that won't!

That will also eat anything that moves. A warmouth (rockbass to me) was the first fish I caught on one of my new baitcasting setups. It was barely bigger than the crank bait I was using!!!

Have had a lot of fun catching them on jigs.

I have a photographic memory...........it never got developed

Warmouth Sunfish

Warmouth sunfish have a huge mouth and will attempt to eat just about anything that comes near them. They are easily caught by fishing near dense cover which they like to hide around.
