Anyone have tips for targeting hybrids running in creeks with the sandies? Especially on fly rod. I do fine getting the sandies but I'm fishing a place that should hve a few hybrids too. Tried going with a heavier, bigger version of the streamer that works on the sandies, fishing deeper pools. Any thoughts?

It was the same hit-and-miss situation in the river below Ray Roberts when both species run up from Lewisville. We use light spinning gear and 1/8 oz. Roadrunners and catch one every now and then. It's soley a numbers thing...just keep chunkin' and one will show up eventually.

You using a sinking tip?

Where are you trying at? I've had some good luck with Clousers on Rowlett Creek but all sandies... Havent seen any Hybrids yet. That sure would be fun though.

Let me know if you want to meet up some time and try some fly-fishing.

Don't know about fly fishing, but I came across a local guy who seems to always catch his limit of whites and hybrids on the same outings. Nears as I can tell after he catches his limit of whites he concentrates on the hybrids. For the Hybrids he uses 1/4oz jigs with 3~4 inch curly tails. All this in tiny W Fork San Jacinto.

Thanks for the info. The place I was fishing is not a secret, it's been mentioned here several times but I'm from the old school that says you just don't tell where you're going, epecially if it's already getting hammered pretty hard.

The creek is to shallow mostly for a sink tip.

I think another facet of this question is that the hybrids don't go up in great numbers every year, they are more hit and miss in that respect. Also, they start later.
