Here are some pretty easy ties that are quick and cheap enough to cast into bass territory and not sweat the occasional (or in my case, often) hang-up and break off:
Sub-surface (consider adding weed guards): - Whooly buggers - long and especially in black; eyes or a bead make it especially buggy looking - The eternal clouser minnow - black, white, chartrues, yellow, usually with white bellies. Try tying the eyes on with clear mono thread and super glue, color choice thread for the rest; just about welds the eyes in place whereas regular thread seem to allow them to twist. I also saw a video of a guy using pellets (like the kind you shoot) as eyes.
Surface(my favorite kind for bass; consider weed guards for the treebass and weedbass): - Cork poppers (Michaels or Hobby Lobby, not so durable w/o coat of epoxy) - Round foam poppers (use a piece of copper or brass tubing, sharpened to cut them out from flip-flop foam; tough as a rubber tire but some shaping required) - Backing rod poppers(round insulation - Lowes or Home; pretty durable and super fast to tie) - Beetles, ants (especialy Chernobyl, club sandwiches, etc. made from sheet foam (also Michaels or Hobby Lobby)
***Just about any Jay "Fishy" Fullum bass fly - minimal steps and readily available materials. Latest I saw was a dandy popper using a piece of folded sheet foam on a catfish hook. Another was using hollow round insulation. I think each took all of 3 or 4 steps start to finish. I think that guy could dive into a dumpster with a hand full of hooks and come out with an equal number of flies.
In this life there is fly fishing and tying...and then there is all that other stuff in between that doesn't matter.

If you go to http://www.rainysflies.com/ there are some simple popper kits. They supply the hooks and popper bodies, fill in the blanks as you see fit. Clousers are about as simple as it gets - bead chain or dumbbell eyes and a top and a bottom of bucktail. Blondes are another easy tie with huge variations possible http://www.flyfishohio.com/a_party_of_blondes.htmMore folks will pop in here with other flies I've forgotten about.

To be honest, I really only have 4 flies in my box. They're tied for sunfish, so it's a little different. However, if I were sizing it up for bass, it wouldn't change much.
Woolly Bugger / Woolly Worm - tied in different colors, sizes, weights etc.
Clouser - tied in different sizes and colors
Elk Hair Caddis - you can probably replace this one with a good grasshopper imitation if you're interested in catching bass versus sunfish.
Foam bodied popper - I like foam beetles for sunfish, but I like the crease flies for bass. You can even tie them with a rattle inside if you want to up the ante.
My fly box is small enough to fit in my pocket and still have room for my phone. With a few of each color of each of those flies, you're pretty much guaranteed to catch bass and sunfish.

...My fly box is small enough to fit in my pocket and still have room for my phone. I like that minimalist approach. When I walk down to my local creek, I usually just carry a Altoids box with flys stuck in foam on each side. It is just the right size to also carry my driving and fishing licenses.

How about a marabou streamer fly. Streamer Hook of the size you want for the fish you are after. Tail a marabou plume 1 to 1-1/2 times the hook length tied in at the bend. Add a bit of flash material to each side of the tail Wrap (palmer so each loop touches the last)a (or several) marabou feather down the shank to the eye. Tips should reach half way down the tail of so. You will have to smooth back the marabou fibers as you go so they don't get trapped under the last wrap, wetting them helps. Whip finish and cement. This fly works well also if you wrap shiny stuff for a body and wrap about 3-4 wraps of marabou just behind the eye.
You might also try a soft hackle seaducer if you need a fly to suspend and be fished very slowly. Same for the fly above.
Get some craft foam and have a blast making up all kinds of stuff.

I didn't see the Sneaky Pete mentioned. Great bass top water fly and simple to tie. You can buy popper kits like Robbin mentioned, and simply reverse the body. See the tying instructions below. You can buy the bodies in different colors so you don't have to paint them. Tying instructions - http://www.questoutdoors.net/skills/ftying/patterns/topwater/sneaky/Tip: For better hookups with this fly and poppers, Lefty Kreh recommends using a hook with a shank long enough so the point of the hook is behind the body of the fly. The popper shown at this link will show what I mean. - http://www.taneycomotrout.com/howtotieleftyspopper.html
