I'm new to fishing Texas. Lavon is the closest lake to me. I read TPWD info and commercial maps with fish info but it didn't pan out. I caught 2 small cats, 1 crappie and 2 hybrids dropping live shad under the railroad bridge. I suspect I can do better than that if I have the right focus, equipment and spot. I have a boat. What species can I fish for? What gear/bait is preferred for each species? Does anyone want to point me to a specific spot? Thanks in advance for your assistance!

If you like to fish for sandbass they should be easy to catch in a few weeks. Go up the middle creek arm north of East Fork Ramp.
And by the dam usually not bad.

I caught them on 3/8oz crank baits last year form late April thru May.

If you want to target cats I would suggest the highland area in the shallow water with fresh shad or up around the 380 area.

Last weekend the crappie fisherman were killing them along the banks. Find some bushes and fish with whatever. They were biting my bass worms but I never brought one to the boat. The crappie fisherman were well fed last week. I saw them far east by 78 all the way to the railroad. Good luck!

Sounds like Lavon is a great place to learn how to catch most of the fish in Texas.
