I have determined through another thread that my bearings in the steering shaft are shot. How do you get to them to replace, and how do you take them out and put them back in..I am fairly good with mechanical stuff, and trying to avoid the shop hourly charge...any help would be appreciated. Also would like to know how much a shop would charge, just to know. Thanks.

if minn kota you have to loosen the collar on the bottom first then take the top off , loosen the cable remoove the pulley and direction gearing, disconnect the wires being careful to mark each one so you wont have any confusion as to where they go , if you have a digital camera id take a pic and that way youll see how to put it all back, after youve done that then push the shaft up and that will expose the top gear and race , two small counter sunk screws hold it in place , remove them , pullout the gear and race and drop the shaftm, id replaqce both lower and upper bearings coating them with some water proof grease, when you go tyo put it all back together be shure to snyc your pedal with the motor pointing forward, being shure to allow enough pedal for right and left turning and adjust cable tension, thats done with the screw at the front of the pedal where the cables go in , hiope i didnt leave anything out

thanks, that is what I thought, but without the parts in hand, I wasn't going to attempt it, as my bearings have no race at all on the lower set. They are just rattling in there, and it is usable but sloppy. I thought it was getting looser, but didn't know where till it started binding at times. Most people don't know to lube those bearings at least yearly. I do now. thanks again, and I will let you know how it goes..Steve
