We got on the water about 3PM and found medium to large Sand Bass on most of the humps between the dam and the twin poles, also in the gravel pits. All of them were laying on the windward side of the humps, and moving fast. We could get a couple out of each school, then would have to go looking again. That is until about 6PM, we found a school on the north side of the hump between Tower Bay and the cliffs, caught all that we wanted, left them biting at about 7PM. The majority were caught on medium sized chrome slabs.

If any one lost a drift sock out there yesterday or the day before, email me I've got it.

Drifter,

That is a good report. The lake has been slow for a couple of weeks now. Maybe the fish realize that fall is here and are beginning to feed.

Plan to be out there two times this week. Friday and Saturday.

Last Saturday we were fishing and wetrat cruised by and waved. He has an interesting website. I recommend every one visit it at least one time. Be sure to look at the photos. That is what is going on at the party cove.

Fished this afternoon with Guy Skinner and Pete Hesselgesser. C & R 161 sandies and one hybrid. Slabs near gravel pits.

A good change of pace.

Ernest,

I am jealous. You had a very good day. One hybrid to 161 whites is about the ratio of whites to hybrids. The secret is catch a lot of whites and a hybrid will show up. A good day will allow you to get in a school of hybrids and catch several.

The gravel pitts have not been good to me this year. A few whites and no hybrids. May try harder this weekend.

Don

Are the gravel pits located between those two buoys south of deadman's point?

The "Gravel Pits" are about in the middle of the lake ESE from the twin poles. Put your back against the twin poles and run toward the mushroomed shaped water towers in the Colony, run about 3/4 mile. That should put you on the western edge of the GP. The whole area is about 1/4 wide and 3/4 mile long, running East and West. Running east\west you will see the humps scattered in the area on the depthfinder. Most do not have much surface area, but there are a lot of them.

The area is surrounded by submerged trees on the East, South, and North. The West entry is pretty open. Be careful, at the rate the lake is going down, (about 1' every 10 days) those trees will be at the surface in the next couple of weeks.

I grew up in Louisiana fishing for LMB at Toledo Bend and for Red Fish out of Venice. I purchased a boat last year and began fishing Grapevine, Lewisville and Ray Roberts on occasion. I trying to learn how to fish the sandies and it seems that we either find them or we don't. And most of the time we don't. On two occasions we have found them; once at RR 7 once at L. Is this the way it works? Or does anyone have some tips? Looking to take my two sons out this afternoon to Lewisville.

Txs,

DKA

Once you learn the lake and how to read your graph properly you should find them almost everytime.

We have fished for sandbass 22 times in the last year and have failed to catch a bunch only two times (100-300 on the average). We found the fish one of those two times but they wouldn't bite much. Missed them totally the other, only six keepers.

Keep on keeping on.

Keep a sharp eye out for the birds. They are feeding late on the surfacing shad. Fish a slab on the bottom under the birds.

Fish are also on windy points late in 10'-15'.

GOOD FISHING.

Ernest,

Thanks for the tips. I think you are right about reading the graph. Where would I go to learn more about it? The manual has only general info. I find fish, but am not sure what kind they are? Also, can find humps. Can you push me in the right direction?

Thanks,
dka
