Hey guys. I just had one bank of my 2 bank charger go out. Originally I was using each bank separate (2 x 12 volts). (My trolling motor batteries are connected for my 24 volt trolling motor with a jumper between them.) My charger also has the option to hook up and charge 24 volts. I am thinking I can use the single operational bank to charge 24 volts.
My question is this:
Is anybody charging their batteries on 24 volt charge (not 2 - 12 volt charges like I did.)?
OK, if so do you have the battery charger connections going to the opposite battery terminals on the separate batteries? (Red to positive #1 battery and Black to negative #2 Battery with jumper between the batteries.)

What type of charger is it? I've never seen one that would put out 24V on a single bank. Are you 100% sure that when it says it will charge 24V, it isn't saying it will charge 2 12V batteries for a total of 24V?

But assuming the answer is yes, then you can certainly charge 2 12V batteries connected in series with a single 24V charger. Or 4 6V batteries for that matter.

"Bad news at Black Rock" guys. I found the box and the instructions are showing a 24v charging system as 2 - 12 volt batteries with a Jumper. (Just as I was doing.) So I am back to 1 bank charging.
OK, for all you rocket scientists out there:
What would happen if I tried to charge a 24 volt system with 12 volts? We used to charge the old 8N Ford Tractors with an 8 volt battery. It gets really confusing.

It'll blow the fuse on the remaining good bank you have (hopefully yours has a fuse). Be sure it's not a dead cell in the battery, I thought that last season and found out I had a bad batt.

Good Thought. I have swapped battery's and connections and it is still a bad charging bank. I guess it comes down (now) to the idea if a 12 volt charger can charge 24 volts. With this system is recognizes the 24 volts BUT it appears to only charge at 12 volts. I guess one day when I get brave I'll try it.
