As far as when they are running right, to me is when it digs straight down and runs straight. In fact if I am running them in my rail mounted rod-holders I try to get them to run slightly away from the boat. That way I can make a slightly tighter turn without worrying about them pulling the line under the motor. They are really sensitive to tuning though. The wire through the lip that you attach you main line to can be bent to affect it's path. If you want it to go left, in relation to the path of your boat, you bend it slightly in that direction. And the key word there is "slightly". Too much and it will go all the way out and surface. Hold it right by the boat and see how it runs and keep making slight adjustments until it is running just like you want. I have some that I just gave up on and put in the Hellbender junk pile on my workbench. Hope this helps. Cliff T.

Willard - Are you using the same rod and line combination for both rigs? My 20lb test mono rig requires 2x as much line to get to the same depth as my braided line rig. I lost a few hellbenders on the bottom before I figured that out. Clifford - If you really do have a junk pile of Hellbenders and want to get rid of them, I'll take them from you. I'm in Flower Mound and can get them just about any time. ------------------ steve pine
