Any thoughts or theories on the different types of fishing scents available for artificial bait. Never used 'em but am willing to try if it'll help. Thanks!

Smelly Jelly seems to work pretty good for me,shad flavor.

I'm always in a good mood when I'm fishing.

2 recent posts on scents. One mentioned petroleum jelly with garlic powder mixed in, stays on a jig a long time. the 2nd said to just use garlic oil. All scent and also stays on a good while. At any rate, grocery store items mixed at home are much cheaper than fishing scents from the tackle shop IMO.

I buy a 5 lb block of frozen wolf urine about every six months.

Howdy from Germany.

May sound strange, but I read about an old time Crappie fisherman spraying his bait with a quick shot of WD 40!

Never tried it - may work, may not!

I've tried a bunch of them; smelly jelly, Dr. Juice, crappie candy, crappie nibbles, and berkley powerbait - crappie formula.

Out of those, we have found that berkley powerbait-crappie formula seems to be the best. We call it @ss-scratch because of the oderiferous bouquet.

Mixing some pure garlic oil with some mineral oil and putting about 10-20 drops of that in any bag of plastics will permeate the bait with a garlic scent. Which is a good thing.

iove heard wd40 from old timers on all types of baits for crappie and bass alike...never tried it though. just figure if they dont want my jig...they just aint biting. but i have wondered about shad scents and sprays effectiveness on crappie. i really thik that crappie are more visual feeders than most other fish..making color and presentation more important than scent...but like most things in fishing, u will catch more on what you are most confident in.

If you use WD 40 your bait will slip through the water without squeaking the least little bit.

Someone somewhere posted about an alternative to nibbles, using small pieces of shrimp that have been dried in salt, made some but haven't had a chance to try em out yet.

I love the nibbles and think they work really well. i've outfished friends a few times using em. That's why I always carry a few bottles, gotta share...!

Crappie nibbles will get em if they are tough to catch that day, but I dont think it makes a difference if it is one of those days when you are catching them as fast as you can pull them in.

I found some stuff at the boat show a few years back, It was called "bass'oleen". The guy said it was made from his home...... Turned out to be great great stuff but I cant find it anywhere. The bad part of this stuff is it was real hard to use in the winter. Would love to get more though.
