I have not posted much lately, my guide business normally tails off for a month or so then picks up in the fall, right now we are in between times. Fished yesterday morning with Ray Patterson and his friend JD, ended up with a grand total of 17 nice Whites and threw back about 45 more. No pattern anywhere, fish here, fish there, never makred a concnetration of them. Go figure! Tried it Sunday night for first night trip of fall with 10 year old daughter of mine, I bored her to sleep. fished from 8:30 til mignight with 12 large Whites, 2 small Blacks, one nice cat and of all things a gar. Lil'Fishes around main lake docks best bet, did see about 200 small gar around a lot of lit docks, hope they do not stay long. We only saw one boat on lake, I hope cooler weather will improve all aspects of fishing soon. ------------------ Billy Seaman(guide Service)

Thanks for the report Billy. I've been trying some nights also and only been catching a few cats. This is almost as bad as Feb. in terms of waiting for the fish to turn on. I'm hoping for a big cold front and about 2" of rain. I'll probably try again next weekend. ------------------ steve pine [This message has been edited by spine (edited 09-22-2003).]

Billy, What are you catching them on at night? I heard in late october through november and in the sring you can catch them on rattle traps under lit boat docks--is this true?

Rattle Traps will work but the big baits can spook the fish. If you use them, cast from the side beyond the light and come back through. Preferred baits are small, up to 1/8 oz. jigs fished with light tackle. RoadRunners, Sassy Shad and Li'l Fishies. Cast directly under the light and let the lure settle to the bottom. If there's a hybrid in the area, chances are it won't make it to the bottom. Not all boat houses are good. If you've got the resources, book a trip with Billy. The money you pay him will be saved in burned up gas looking for fish and trying to learn how to do it right. ------------------ steve pine
