Water Temp.50
Normal pool 164.40
Water Clarity 2 feet
01-24-10
Sam Rayburn has dropped this week to 162.41 and thats right at 2 feet low. We had some more rain above us and the lake level jumped up just a little from the rain. The water has really started to get a lot of color from the rivers as they pull more water each day.
Sam Rayburn has been slow this week but we have managed to catch a few fish on traps and Stanley Spinner baits. We caught them in the grass as theyve started to move up slowly. We have had several on that had some weight to them. Darn things managed to pull loose after a short fight. These fish didnt hit hard, the line kind of got heavy like you had grass on. You would notice that something just wasnt right, and then they let go. There have been a few fish caught around the grass on Senkos. Things are looking up as the males start to move into the pockets looking for a place to spawn. The females will start to stage in places waiting for the perfect time to move in. Look for some fish to start working on points as they move back into the pockets. Carolina and Texas rigged lizards are a great way to hang into some of these fish. This is what spring time is about so dont sit at home. Get out and try to catch a few fish or hang around and enjoy the great outdoors with someone.
I got some nice pictures of some offshore structure on the New Lowrance StructureScan and have them loaded on my site. You wont believe the detail on some of it. I got some of it recorded and added the video for you to watch. Check it out. The video is a good size file and takes some time to download.

Remember the Sharelunker Program entries started on October 1 and run thru April 30th. If you havent heard, it encourages anglers who catch a 13 - pound- plus largemouth bass to lend or donate it to the TPWD for spawning purposes. There are some great benefits doing this and one of them is that the angler receives a fiberglass replica of the bass. There is a 24- hour pager at 1-888-784-0600 Check out the Program rules at their site along with the Benefits. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/visitorcenters/tffc/sharelunker/

Crappie; The Crappie are still slow because of all the rain and fresh water we have had in the last few weeks. This time of year you play with the wind as the fronts move through. Between the fronts there are usually a few days that the wind will lay down. We do our best to get people out to enjoy the cool days and natural beauty of our lake.
The new pontoon has plenty of room for everyone so get you trips booked for next year.

God Bless

Is it illegal to lay minnow traps there at Sam Rayburn Lake?
