I recently got an old lms 160 from a friend that came with map create software,but my ? is, what is it good for. I have installed the unit on my boat but their is no detail to the map, will this add detail to the unit or is it for something else.

Map Create is primarily for roads. I don't think it has lake contours, but you can still put in weigh points, chart paths, etc.

I had Mapcreate and it was pretty worhless IMHO. Could use it to save/backup Waypoints.
You might try downloading the Lowrance Free Enhanced Lake Maps. They aren't Navioonics detail but they are free and better than nothing.
