If there is alot of grass throw a lipless, if no grass throw a lip. I fish crankbaits from 3 to 18 ft or deeper if they are suspended or schooling. I would throw a shad trap or crankbait if they were schooling though.

I fish Eagle mountain the majority of the time and for me, that color works well in early spring up through the end of May of or so. The south side is clear, deep, and rocky so i like to use a true crank with a lip. I prefer to fish the 5-10ft range and use a crank that will dig into the rocks and sand. I vary the retrieve until i find one that works. Most of the time a moderate retrieve with a stop and go technique works best for me. Normally they will snag it while it sits and when i go to yank on the rod it feels like the crank is snagged....its a great feeling!

lipless for just a pure open water reaction strike, esp over grass but works as well without, and lipped for the same reaction bite but when you have to bump into things...
