has any one fished cooper lake

Yep, for Hybrids, Sandies, LMB and Crappie.
Beautiful lake and very low fishing pressure.
You can be out there in the middle of the day Saturday
and you might see 2 other boats all day.
Crappie in the coves and points.
The forest just overwhelms me on the west end.
That's why I stick to the main lake.

Cut my teeth on that lake. When I was in college, it was lights out for crappie, the drought and extremely low water conditions a few years back changed that lake for the worse. We would routinely and frequently catch many limits of fish on Cooper, and 2 years ago the lake was at an all time low of 17 ft. below pool. After the lake came back up, we fished and fished and fished with very limited sucess compared to our sucess before the drought. The lake has had some what stable water now for several years, and I did fairly well there this last spring walking creek banks. The brush pile bite never seemed to materialize after the spawn, but I am ready to give it another go this year. There are numerous corp. brush piles in cooper and they usually hold good numbers of crappie. Low preasure is a plus, but the wind can limit your fishing on the piles as they are mostly out in open water on the main lake. I love this lake, and hope that this year I can restore the confidence that I once had in fishing this lake.

I spent a week with the fam at cooper this summer and fished for 4 days. Tried and tried to catch crappie but never caught more than a few. There is a LOT of timber in the lake, probably several thousand acres and it has a few boat lanes cut through it... no doubt there are lots of crappie in that forest SOMEWHERE and if you could unravel the mystery it would be great, I'm sure. In the week I was there it was fairly windy, but that lake gets pretty rough in moderate wind. The crappie I caught were in the sloughs on the east in the timber between the state park beach and the dam. Good luck and give a report if you go!
