I am buying a 2006 BassCat Sabre with a 150 Optimax on it. Do I need to run a specific oil in it or can I use the Quicksilver Premium Plus in it?

Scott.... If the engine already has been running it and you want to change back over to the Premium Bled run the onboard tank down as low as you can and the change because if you mix the optimax oil with the premium it will sometimes start to gell if they sit together for a long period of time. Actaully Premium Plus is what they come with from the factory....OPTI

Thanks, I went for a ride in it a couple of days ago and it runs great for a 150. It has a 25P Tempest on it.

Opti, How come Mercury told me to run only the Opti blend of oil? I have an 06' 200 and all I run is the Opti and Quick Kleen. I also run the Stabil in it during the winter months. I have a lot of carbon build up in the prop. Use to have a 90' 115 Mariner and it has just as much or more than it did. Mine is still under warranty but I don't like spending 40+ a gal. as opposed to 25+ a gal if I don't have to.

Dawg, You may want to see if the motor temp is getting to operating temp. If not it will run rich. We, as well as Mercury, recommend the Opti oil in all Optis except the Pro XS series, then you can run the Prem Plus. Try to find someone selling it in bulk and you can save some money. We sell it for $20.00 a gal. in our containers. We can ship.

Mercury Optimax/DFI or Quicksilver DFI 2‑Cycle Engine Oil is recommended for your engine. If Mercury Optimax/DFI or Quicksilver DFI 2‑Cycle engine oil is not available, we recommend using Mercury or Quicksilver TC‑W3 Premium Plus 2‑Cycle Oil. Severe engine damage may result from use of an inferior oil. If you run the Premium Plus always run Quilkeen to cut down on the carbon build up and like Tommy mentioned make sure the engine is reaching operating temperture specially this time of year....OPTI
