Just wondering if anyone out there has had any luck at the boat slips yet? Two years ago I tore them up when the lake was down, fishing from the boat slips. This year no access to door codes, BOO HOO! So planning to take my canoe to a local marina, and ever so rapidly plan deployment into water and fish these same places and structure. Is this illegal? Probably only if I get caught right? Thanks for all info.

As long as your feet don't tread on the dock then you are perfectly legal. I've caught lots of shad around boat docks from my boat and although many don't like it, it is my perfect right to fish around docks etc. It isn't too cool if you know for a fact that someone has a hole baited out but I guess it's legal. Problem is that almost every boat slip has had christmas trees placed under it at one time or another as my numerous torn nets can attest to so it's hard to know if the current slip owner put them out or a previous owner. I guess my answer is there is no answer.

Thanks for the imput, I've got some of my own trees down, put there of course when the lake was down, as soon as it filled up, they moved the slips out and put me off my trees. Oh well. Anyway I'll try it out, I just don't want to get in trouble with the marina owners from launching inside their marina, from the bank. I guess once I'm on the water , It's too late.

the state of texas owns the water- the marina owns the wood. Just don't touch thier wood give right of way to boats entering and leaving and you are perfectly legal. Thier is a lot of misconception on water rights. But by law you can fish under a dock as long as you don't touch it! Tell them I said so, and if they don't like it OH WELL!

I once had someone tell me that it was illegal for me to fish in tower bay from my boat and that he would call the police if I didn't leave. Needless to say that I stayed put and proceeded to catch a nice 2 lb largemouth practically under his slip. I know the law, or atleast think I do...and as long as you are in the water, you can fish absolutely anywhere you want to. Good luck.

"the state of texas owns the water- the marina owns the wood."

Not quite true. The part about the marina is correct but the City of Dallas owns the water rights to Lewisville Lake and Ray Roberts Lake (and I believe Lake Ray Hubbard and Joe Pool). The Corps of Engineers manages the shores of the lakes (and much of that has been turned over to the local communities). Learned all of that during the drought a few years back when people around Lewisville Lake were wanting the Corps to release water from Ray Roberts to bring the level in Lewisville Lake up. They couldn't do it because the City of Dallas would not allow it. The reason Dallas gave, and it makes sense to me, was that because Lewisville Lake is much shallower then Roberts that the water evaporates much faster. They wanted to hold it in Roberts as long as possible. There was a lawsuit filed by the landowners on Lewisville Lake about it. The City of Dallas won.

It doesn't affect fishing rights one way or another as TPWD has jurisdiction.
