My fishing buddy (RonC) and I fished Lavon four times in the last 3 weeks. Each time, we caught lots of small crappie and sandies but very few keepers. Most crappie are just under the legal size. We fished various areas over brush pies and around trees in deeper water. Where are the big slabs?

Hey Thanks to the both of ya'll, I appreciate your response's! Greg I wish I knew where the big slabs are to buddy and I would be more than happy to share!! I have had the very same problem as both of ya'll!! Small ones but just no size!! But at least the future looks good out there, and those small ones grew a little bit! Buck sounds like you have the right idea about going to a different lake, I am thinkng about that myself!! What time have ya'll been fishing at morning or afternoon? Do ya'll jig or minnow fish? Thanks again for your replies, good luck and good fishin!!

We have been getting on the lake early in the morning... like 7 or 8. And, we stay til noon or mid-afternoon. We have been using medium minnows. Ran out of minnows one day and had to switch to jigs. They were not near as effective.

I was out there on Friday fishing for sandies. By the dam there were schools of baitfish everywhere. Got a glimpse of them on the surface a couple of times and they were 1-3" minnows. I was jigging a spoon and managed to catch a few nice 12-14" crappie right up against the rip rap in 10-20ft of water. It seems to me if you were fishing for crappie, a jig with a live minnow would be the way to go.
