If you go to Black creek, you can launch easy on the park side but there is also a good launch on the west side. Take 922 of Old Decatur rd. When you come down the rd you will see an area on the left where folks camp. It's steep in most places but there is a chute of sorts where you can easily slide down and launch a canoe or yak. Fishing there can be pretty good on jigs tic'd off the bottom and minnows. Been kinda cool so slow your presentation. There are some respectable fish in there both Bass and Crappie.

didnt cach a darn thing. wind was calm till we got ready to launch and it started gusting at 15+. was impossible to stay in one place. dont have electronics on the canoe yet (suction cup transducer on order), but it appeared to be around 20 ft out in the middle, and pretty shallow elsewhere. possibly a deep channel from the creek in the back. i could see catching them in the deeper water on a calm day with electronics. we hit the banks pretty good where it wasnt too windy and got nothin. did see some bank fisherman pull up a few small gills and bass on worms.

we paddled as far as we could up both creek channels, but they dried up. am wondering if this lake is at least partially spring fed.

next we went to clear lake, based on the forest service website claim of a pier 20 ft deep at the end. well, the water is just a tad low. it was about 2-3 ft deep at the end of the pier. the lake did look very "fishy" with a creek channel, hydrilla, some standing timber. it was pretty windy though and starting to get late so we headed back.

while we were heading back to the highway, we came around a corner on a gravel rd, and saw about 20-30 large birds in the road. my first thought was buzzards munchin on road kill. my next thought was wishing i had a shotgun, as turkeys filled the air. i think they were out in the open celebrating surviving thanksgiving. i had never seen more than a 2 or 3 at a time before, was very cool.

even though we caught nothing, had a great time exploring some truly beautiful texas country. i will definitely be back. there seems to be plenty of land and water to explore up there.

grasslands is over fished back when I was a kid in the 1990 dad, brother and I went out there all the time you could catch a fish on anything and fly rods were a blast but when I got in to high school it started to go down hill. To many people that have to keep everything they get started to bring the population down I think
