Took my youngest boy out to the Vine today. Picked up some buffalo at the store just in case we did not get any shad. Managed a few big cutters at the ramp. Bite was slow, but fish where good quality. Managed two. First one went 44.5" long with a girth of 28". This site shows it would have been close to 40 lbs. He was a pig. Took a few minutes to get him in. He made several good runs before we got him close enough to grab. Second one went around 20. He was a pig as well. Both put up good fights and made the low numbers worth it. Going to invest in a decent scale. The 44.5" is my new personal best. My son tried to reel him in at first but it was too much for him. He had a great time but was sad to see the fish released. He was a little upset that we didnt catch any small enough to keep. Lol.

First two pics are of the bigger one. Third is the smallest of the day.

Robert, I hate to do this to ya but check the lake record blue and length. If it wasn't a lake record it was dang close.

Sounds like you got a couple of nice hawgs. Congratulations on two good catches. thumb

Thanks for the comments everyone. He was big, but no record. He is my new pb and was glad my son was with me. I wish he would have been able to bring it in, that would have made the day perfect.

Hey Robert, they have some nice fish grips at BPS for I think it is $8.95, They are narrow jawed, and you can use them on small or big fish, good to hold the fish while taking the hooks out, real good for kids and ladies to hold the fish for pictures, and I like them a lot better than the T/C ones, sure saves your hands from them big ole Blue's!!!

Good Luck to Ya!!!

What bait did you get 'em on?

That boy is gonna have some great memories.

The big one was on shad, and the smaller on buffalo.

Ill check in to some of those grips. Ive got a pair of gloves for handling, but I had left them at home.

Congratulations- those are great fish and I'm sure your son was thrilled. I was out on Grapevine today with the kids as well and didn't boat any. For whatever reason we couldn't find shad around the Meadowmere ramp as we usually do- so we drifted with frozen shad I had from a prior trip. Lost a couple small ones- but nothing like the beasts you caught. Congrats again on a great day.

Makes me wonder why I bought a boat. I never got anything like that when I fished from the bank. bang
