I was told by the people at Smack Tackle that they use split hooks knowing that a lot of people change out the hooks anyway. The bait comes with quality hooks that will do the job, but you can change them out if you want to.

The hooks are VMC replacement hooks. The biggest fish I know of that was caught with those hooks was a 24.6 lb striper. It's no problem taking the hooks off and replacing them if thats what you want to do. I personally have caught 40 or 50 hybrids (short) in one day and never had a problem with them. I also caught bass up to 4 lb with no problem.
