Using the barometer is there a good and bad time to fish? I am in Wichita Falls and we go to Lake Arrowhead to fish.

I know the weather man here and he is an avid fisherman as well and he had no clue either.

Its going to take an oldtimer to answer this question. I have seen a electronic doohickee that tells you wehther to fish or not. But I dont need anything else nagging me.

I will start of with what my grand-dad always showed me. He had an ole mason jar, filled about 2/3 to the top and with a glass coke bottle upside down. He would not go fishing unless the water was up in the coke bottle and not on the outside. If the water was on the outside, and not in the coke bottle he said the fishing would be poor at best. Now, that was a home made barometer. Water in the coke bottle meant high pressure.

I have personally found when the pressure is rising to or above 30 is the best fishing. Means in my way of thinking it is "pushing" more oxygen in the water, low pressure is "releasing" oxygen. Now, with falling barometer usually means a front is coming or near and fishing will usually pick up. Just not after the front sets in and the pressure is low or has beeen.

Like I said, just my personal opinion and findings.

I have heard the coke bottle idea as well. I agree with your thoughts.
