Hello All,
Since minors do not legally need a fishing license, what happens if they catch an oversized (>28") red?
Do they have to throw the fish back since they don't have a license with a redfish tag?

That is a great question. I take my little guy fishing all the time and have not thought of that.

Yes, they have to throw it back unless they buy a tag for $3. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/publications/annual/general/fish_stamps/Red Drum Tag: This tag is required for an individual to take one red drum per license year over the maximum length limit of 28 inches, and is included free with the purchase of a saltwater fishing stamp endorsement or any package that includes the saltwater fishing stamp endorsement. See tagging information. Persons who want to obtain a red drum tag and are EXEMPT from fishing license requirements may purchase an Exempt Angler Red Drum Tag for $3.
If you thought healthcare was expensive, ... wait until it's free
