Hello Everyone, is there any interest in holding a fly casting game day in McKinney some Saturday?

I've read about different casting games and they sound like they would be fun to try. The type of casting game that I'm thinking about has several stations and each station requires a different cast or technique.

For example: a distance station with a target at 120 feet, you make a cast and move up to where the fly landed for the next cast, and then just count the number of casts required to hit the target.

Another example could be that the target has an obstical over it that requires a very low cast to reach the target. (Side arm style cast would be one solution)

There are other options for different stations.

I'm thinking we could meet up one Saturday morning at the same park that we've met at before. And just like the other casting events we've had in McKinney it would be very informal and open to everyone.

Any interest in doing something like this?

Rex

That sounds really cool, Rex. Would there also be a casting clinic of some sort?

There would not be a formal casting clinic, this is more of a play day. But at our past get togethers in McKinney we've had several experienced casters and instructors that were willing to help anyone with their casting.

However, there will be a formal casting clinic in Keller on Sept 19. Jim Bass is orgainizing it and Al Crise is planning to lead it. There will be multiple instructors helping with that clinic. Jim has website with more info : http://www.metroplexflyfisher.com/fallclinicsighup.html

Sounds good. And it might be fun to have a go at the carps as well.

Rex, you might want to get in touch with Roger. Where you around back in the North Texas Fly Casters days? He no longer has the setup but he had about 8 different stations set up about the time we quit meeting. We used to get together once a month and do this.

I remember some of the stations too if you need more ideas. One of my favorite was a speed accuracy course it was cool.

Rex

I just invited you to join North Texas Casting, the old yahoo group that we set up for the original casting games days. Posted your invite as well as a link to this thread.

Rex:

We had a nine hole fly casting course at the Trout Unlimited 50th Anniversary meeting in Michigan last month. Unfortunately I had a committee meeting to attend and missed out, but was told it was a lot of fun. The winning team even walked away with new Orvis rods.

I'm game, and Towne Lake sounds like a great place to set it up.

Timing would dictate, but I'd definately be in. I'd also volunteer to help with any casting issues that anyone has. Maybe meet a half hour or an hour early.....

Robin, FYI, I'm already on the NT Casting list.

Dave, I never was able to attend when Roger had the course set up. I would love to have some suggestions for different stations.

Mick, I'd welcome your suggestions too. I've just heard about doing something like this, but I've never done it.

Everyone else, don't worry about your casting skill level. This will be aimed at just getting together and having fun.

Sounds like fun Rex If I attend everyone will have to be inoculated against catching my bad casting virus (B1C1 virus) to avoid spreading this horrible disease.

How will the casting course be organized?
Off the tee with a lead core shooting head on a 10wt for the 120ft competition?
A chip shot to the target with a 5wt or would that be cheating?

I like your target idea beneath low hanging limbs?
How bout another behind a prominent obstacle.

Ive never thought much about casting competition but I compete against myself for improvement if possible?
