I love to fish for crappie in the spring and summer, but have never tried them in the winter. I live in central texas and fish Granger mainly for crappie. Since I have no boat, are there productive ways to catch crappie from the shoreline or docks when it gets colder? How do their patterns change in the winter time? Didn't know this- but I was informed that the crappie will move into creeks in the winter..No wonder I don't catch a bunch in the winter! I always try to fish cold/deep water. See ya in the creek!

Fishing barges are a popular winter hangout for fish and fisherman. Some Crappie will head up the creeks but not all of them. There are still alot of fish in the deep water. Jerry www.JerryhancockOutdoors.com www.AdvantageMarineUSA.com

There are always some deep fish and some shallow fish, regardless of the time of year. If you're bank walking in the winter, choose your area carefully. Hard, light colored bottoms (rip rap rock, gravel, sand), bridge columns or larger trees (stumps). Anything that will absorb the sun's heat and reflect it. If the water is cold and the fish are shallow, they will seek out this heat.

I have fished the dock on Granger with some good success. But I haven't fished it in the winter. I wonder if anyone has done any good there in the winter?

I catch crappie in the spring and summer on that dock at granger. If I catch them there are summer when it is hot, does this mean that they will be there when it's freezing cold?

Where do Crappie hang out in some of the larger "tanks" or ponds? Are they spread out or do they group together? I have caught some biggies in some of the town ponds and smaller state impoundments but they're always hit or miss.
