OK been reading the debates about trucks and "what do I get" type requests... mine is slightly different. I need a truck to primarily use on my ranch:
Haul stuff out into the pasture (ie fencing t-posts portable panels) so I'd like 4 wheel drive.
Haul a 18ft flat bed with Hay 5-6000 lbs ,10-12 times a year
Haul my tractor for occasional repair, 1-2 per year
haul cows to vet/market (5-6000lbs) 4-5 times a year
Haul my 24ft pontoon
Haul a small travel trailer (not yet purchased but probably a 25ft)
I pick up feed every other week in 55 gal barrels (appx 1000lbs)
I want a crew cab so when we go camping or to the lake we can take guests.
My wife has a bad back so ride is important.
All my trailers are bumper pull.
I have a 97 GMC 3500 (non-dually) crew-cab that needs repair and struggles with the pontoon at highway speeds.
What do you recommend...used is fine...not gonna be a "commuter" but fuel economy is important. Probably only be putting 10k miles a year or less with infrequent use.
Just because you can, doesn't mean you should!

buy my 20001 Dodge Dually 3500 4x4 brand new tires with aggressive tread on it black, extended cab(club cab where the back doors open for easy entry. folding gooseneck ball, and trailer brake controller. 6 speed manual... drives like a big rig- all you do is let out on the clutch- dont even have to touch the gas...

is money an issue?
I say go with a Dodge Diesel.
Stay away from the 6.7's (newest models)
Try and find you a clean '94-'97 (old 12 valves) with a standard tranny......
or if you want to rock it old school, '91-'93 models were bullet proof.

+1000 on Cummings 5.9 litre. I have a small used car dealership and can not keep them in stock. Mileage is not an issue.

Not sure about the new engines but 05 my 5.9L is a 6 cylinder. I did a lot of research before I bought mine and that 5.9 cummins is supposed to be one of the best.
