Hey folks, I've been so bummed by all the lures I lost to snags yesterday as I was bank fishing on a stumpy lake. While reading an old thread there was a very brief mention of someone using a lure retrieval "tool", I searched the archives but found next to nothing. But apparently there is a weighted (heavy) device that you can attach to your line once a snag has occured, slide it down your line to dislodge the lure. You have to remember not to pull hard on the plug once you realise it's not a fish, I assume. Anyway, I just did a search on ebay and sure enough there are a few under the search term "lure retriever". I wouldn't expect to get every snagged plug back but man I sure wish I had such a thing yesterday! Has anyone here ever used such and item or have any experience with them or better yet - have one to recommend? TIA!

I dont have a certain brand to recommend, but I was snooping around KJ's boat at the Skeeter T and noticed he had a heavy(1-2 oz) weight on a paperclip in the cupholder....sounds cheap enough.Dont know how well it works though.

I use a 6oz bait sinker w/ a paper clip. Works like a champ for $2.50. Maybe overkill on the weight, but it works for me... I saw this used by someone on a TFF video or WFN can't remember for the credit...

Hey, I was just wondering.. think it would be a good idea to sort of throw the "plugknocker" down the line (for momentum) or just let it slide naturally down? Would the extra momentum be eliminated anyway once the thing hit the water - just causing extra (un-needed) commotion? Thanks again.

Check out easyretriever.com. Not 100% but I have had a lot of success with these retrievers.

I haven't had any luck with the Bass Pro EZ lure retriever at all. I used it several times with zero luck.
I used to have one that David Fritz used to market and it worked great but I can't find them any more.

This is the one I use and it works great for me. Not only does it have the weight to knock the lure off, but if that dosent work the chains will get stuck on the hooks. At that point you just pull the string and you saved $15.

I have read in a mag that you can put a weight on the end of a retractable dog leash and it will stay out of the way until you need it. Might be worth a try.
