here is a list of the bearings that i commonly use. what's listed first are the dimensions, followed by the boca bearings part #, then the abec rating, then the cost rounded up to the nearest dollar. tom hryniuk forwarded some interesting information on abec ratings.....

HI Alan, here is a link explaining ABEC tolerance:

http://www.mcmaster.com/library/20070314/60355KAC.pdf

You will notice that on the shaft diameter difference is .0001"(one ten thousandth of an inch). For the O.D. (outside diameter) the difference is .0001" to .0002". So you are looking at a difference of .0003" total deviation. In my world, thats a lot. In a reel that is more than likely plastic molded to a tolerance of +/-.010", at best, or machined to a tolerance of +/-.005", the price difference isn't worth it. More important is the quality of bearings! Just my two cents.....

Here's the complete list of the sizes just in case Alan didn't include it on his list. I also included a cross reference list. Hope this helps.

Well I watch on ESPN and VS these pro's flip and skip way under Docks and wonder to myself why Can't I do that? Well I can now, I just recently changed out my spool bearings on my 3 TD-Z 103H's to the Boca ABEC 5 Hybrid bearings and all I can say is WOW. The first day I tested them out I could tell I was flipping much farther and much more accurate than before. I am going to order me a couple sets of the ABEC 7 Orange Seal bearings when they arrive in May to see if they are better than the ABEC 5 Hybrid bearings. If your disappointed in how far your reels cast or flip get yourself a set of these ABEC 5 Hybrid from Boca Bearings and test them out for yourself. Just click on the Sponsor box above to get to the site then click the drop down from recreation and click fishing, then choose the reel you wish for find the kit for.

you can measure your bearings. remember it is metric measurements.the first number is the distance from inside center hole accross to other side of the hole. the second number is measured accross the outside edge over to other outside edge and the last number is the height of the bearing. For example a BNT 0194 is a 3x10x4. 3=the inside hole measurement, the 10 is the outside edge to ouside edge and the 4 is the height. Another good idea is to order the bearings dry. We order our bearings dry and clean and check each one and service for our customers or they may service the bearings with their choice of product.
We use TG'sRocketfuel, It works for us and has proven over the year to provide the best performance. however, other shops use other products and have as much confidence in their choice as well.

Hmm, maybe Daiwa? I usually just buy the Abu ones. I'm sure you could find some that aren't specifically for fishing reels but are the same material and size. You could probably even make your own. How many did you need?
