I went to a pond very close to my house that hasn't even been there a full year. I throw in an artificial worm and I got a bite on nearly every cast. And caught tons of these. You can't tell by the picture but they have ruby red eyes. I first thought Rock bass but it doesn't have the 6 Anal Spines. So they are either big perch or baby small mouths every single one was about 6 to 7 inches long and put up a nice fight for the size. What do you think?

Its either a green sunfish or a warmouth. Can't tell for certain from the pics. Go to tpwd's website, select "Fishing/Boating", then "Freshwater Fish Species". There are pictures and detailed descriptions of all the sunfishes.

Yea I guess it is a green sunfish (rock bass). The way they were biting it makes sense.

The TPWD website says a warmouth and rock bass (green sunfish) are different.

Reading the info on the Rock Bass leads me to believe Rock Bass because it states that the Rock Bass is usually the first fish to populate a newly formed lake or pond. And they usually overpopulate small ponds to the point that they will not grow very big. So judging by the fact the pond was formed less than a year ago and the shear numbers of fish.... It has to be the Rock Bass. I didn't see the 6 Anal Spines but it also states that the rock bass will breed with other sunfish. So could be a hybrid.

Maybe a Warmouth Rock Bass Hybrid Because it does look a lot like that Warmouth.

That's why they call it fishing and not catching!

That's a warmouth, different fish from green sunfish, and different from a rock bass (three diff. species).
No fish is too good for the grease.

yep, goggle eye, aka Warmouth, I swear a 4 inch goggle eye will try and eat a 8" plastic worm.
