I have a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 with 5.7lt Hemi. I have learned a thing or two about the Hemi engine since owning this truck and a Dodge Charger R/T. If you take your time and accelerate slowly and stay at 65 or below the Hemi does good with out pulling anything. Truck about 17-19mpg Charger about 21-24. With my boat behind me I get about 13.8 mpg when I go 65 and when I go 55 I get 15.7 mpg. I have learned that if I stay at 55 and never go over that and stay below 2000 rpm when I take off I get in the truck 24.9 mpg and in the Charger 33.1 mpg. This is called hyper-mileing. Google it and it will give you some great gas saving tips.

Pulling 18ft with a 2008 Expedition, 12.5 to 13.5. without boat I'm getting 19-20 hwy so can't complain...... When towing I turn the overdrive off and that really hurts. I've left it on and improved to 15-16. Anyone else leave it on or does everyone turn it off? I don't tow in overdrive, it is a quick way to trash your tranny.

Few things guys will lie about: size of their feesh, mpg their truck gets and the size of their....oh never mind. My F350 6.0 gets 12-14 towing a 20ft BassCat, 13-15 around town and 17-19 on the highway loaded. Best I have ever seen was almost 20 all of this hand calc'ed.

2007 Chevy Z71 pulling a Skeeter ZX250 11 mpg running 70-75 mph and 12.5 running 65 mph. I'd hate to know what I'd get in my old '05 F-150 FX4. Main reason I got rid of it!

My Ford manual says that if your transmission is shifting into and out of overdrive alot, Then take It out of overdrive. They don't say not to tow in overdrive. Like I said..I have heard people say its ok when others say it's not ok

2002 F250 with a 7.3 diesel
I have a quadzilla chip set to 80hp extra and use amsoil diesel concentrate every fill up.
With no head wind, I can get 19+ pulling my 19' basscat.
With no boat and no wind, I can get 23 to 24 on the highway.
head wind knocks those down a bit and I always keep it just right above 70mph, it's seems to be the sweetspot.
Of course the diesel is more expensive.
I usually get about 16mpg average per tank, but that's with lots of city driving to and from work. On the highway, she gets it.
I'm feelin' real lucky compared to the numbers y'all are throwing out there, didn't even realize how good I had it wow!
I think chipping those old horse diesel motors before they girlified 'em works pretty well.

05' F-150 4X4 Lariat towing Avg 11 Not towing 14.5 town 16.5 Hwy. Towing 19' NauticStar I get about 10.5 mpg towing a 19' Bass Cat with my 2003 Ford F150 Super Crew 4x4. I had a 22' Nautic Star and got 9.5 mpg towing that. Non towing highway = 17 mpg. Have never calculated city mpg.
