I just read in the June Field and Stream..
Soak your spools and monofiliment in equal parts water and fabric softener to relieve line memory.

Anyone ever try this??

I soak the spools of mono (not reel spool, but line spool) in hot water for about 5 minutes before spooling new line. This will eliminate the memory, and by the time it gets bad, it's time to respool.

Haven't tried the fabric softener.

I have soaked new cast nets in fabric softener for the same purpose however I stopped doing it because to me it seemed to weaken the material.

Hey Kelly, GREAT idea man!! I always throw the last 100 yds or so away because when the line spool gets that low it starts coming off in tight curls! I'll try that hot water trick, do you use good warm water or actually hot water?

What about the scent of the fabric softner? Does that distract the fish?

I don't think it distracts the fish, but it may attract more feminine fish. It also helps keep my socks and my wife's nylons from sticking to my reels, which can be a pain.
