I had a friend give me a Pflueger Criterion last weekend and when i started checking everything out I noticed the line doesnt release real easily when you are trying to cast. In order to get the spoil to move even remotely quick you have to back down the drag and the tension knob all the way. It is a preowned reel and I dont know if they took it apart and put it back together wrong or what. Does anyone have an idea on how to fix this?
Any tips or help would be greatly appreciated!

sounds like the pinion gear could be worn out...
that's one thing that could cause what you are experiencing...

Lure Buddy on the TFF will clean and lube for 15.If it can be repaired, you won't get it done cheaper.

A friend gave me a pflueger Trion that wasn't working. It was the previous model that had a flipping switch on it. I sent it to Shakespeare and they sent me a brand new, updated one, no questions asked. You might try sending them an email, which I did first, and they told me to send it to them. The reel they sent me works great. Great for casting long distances with cranks.

Well I went to Academy today and they took it and gave the the amount on a gift card...I was wanting a different reel anyway so it worked out really well. Thanks for all the info.
