matt Uglies and Abu baitcasters, are about the best bomb proof set up out there when it comes to dependability and no nonsense catfishing.
Just one more cast!

I like the 7 and 8 foot ugly sticks with a spinning reel loaded with 15 or 20 pound big game for larger cats. Will zip in anything up to about 10 pounds and can reel in much larger if I play them.
If I am in my jonboat on small water, I usually just use a zebco 33 combo. Simple but effective and alot easier to manage than the longer rods.

Abu 6000,6500c3,6600c4's and 7ft MH ugly sticks or 7ft MH Tuff Tips by Jarvis Walker. The tuff tips are glass rods like the ugly stiks and about $8 or $9 cheaper with cork grips. You can get them at Academy. Also the 8ft catfish uglys. Only problem is the 8ft'ers are two piece.

Favorite for what? lol
Let's see... I've got an old Daiwa PMA1000 on a 7'6" Ugly Stick Lite ML with 50 lb. power pro...it's my goto rig for lighter floats and for punchbait (thing has an incredibly soft tip, and will launch a glob of punchbait, 3/8oz. lead, and cork about 50 yds.
My goto for bigger floats is an Ambassadeur Royal Express III loaded with 65 lb. PP on a 10' Tsunami.
My favorite for heavier bottom rigging is a 6500C3 w/ 65 lb. PP on an 8' H Whuppin' Stick.
Another fav. cork rod is a Cardinal 104 w/ 40 lb. PP on a 7' shimano Scimitar.
I do still love my surf rigs though for launching heavy baits a LOOOOOOOOOONG way out there (including large corks), including a 12' Shakespeare Power Pro rod with a Salt Striker Bait Feeder. Also got a 12' Tica with a 7000C3 and 65 lb. PP.
Do I gotta pick just one??? Cos that ain't fair!
No fish is too good for the grease.

I use Abu Reels and Ugly Sticks, a JW Tuff Tip, on Abu Garcia rod I got from Academy for like $10. That sure is a nice catish rod. Those are my primary catfishing rods.
