to catfish it's a "light" factor, I believe. I don't think that channelcat or flathead like direct sunlight at all. bluecat are more tolerant of the light than the other two are but if light is able to penetrate the water where you fish then night fishing is going to be better ... if it's a muddy water lake or river then the fish will feel free to move around during the day so it won't seem like it matters at all what time of day you fish ... like here on keystone ... it stays muddy just about all the time and we catch fish all day long here. I've went to some other clearer water systems that it seemed pretty dead until it got a lot later in the evening or when the water is clear below the dam at keystone at times the fish didn't bite too well until after the sun went over the dam. might be that they're like little kids ... if I can't see you then you can't see me kinda deal too ... I've seen channelcat in super clear waters get right up under stuff when checking out clear ponds with goggles and snorkle when I was a kid and when the wind started to blow the following day they'd be gone ... the waves caused the light to refract up under the stuff where the fish were holding and they didn't seem to like that so I think they just buried themselves up in the moss cause they were no where to be found.

And whenever you get free time to go...heck, I've caught them all day long, in direct sunlight, dark, dawn, dusk, it all depends when they are hungry. If you get one to bite, most times it will turn the rest on to the bite as well, but not always.
