i recently purchased my eagle 320 and in the install manual is tells you to mount the transducer's middle line with the staight line that comes off the transom but on the eagle website is say's to point the face of the transducer to the bottom "if possible"is there variation's on how to point the face of the transducer.

you want the transducer to be parallel to the boat's hull in the water .. basically the bottom surface should be pointing down perpendicular, for the most accurate reading. Do you know if your transom is a 14 degree ? Does it have settings based on transom type ?
